Clay joined Southport Capital in 2001. Clay began his investment career at Merrill Lynch in 1996 and also served as Vice President of Trust Investments at SunTrust Bank.
Before initiating his investment career, Clay enjoyed success as a Major League baseball pitcher for the New York Yankees, Detroit Tigers, and Seattle Mariners. He received a Bachelor’s in General Education from Louisiana State University where he played football and baseball for the Tigers.
Outside of work Clay has been involved in various ministries along with speaking engagements. Clay also assists with kid’s sports clinics.
Mike is one of the owners and serves on the Board of Directors for Southport Capital. He has over two decades of experience managing investment portfolios. He began his portfolio management career with Oppenheimer Capital, specializing in working with retired Delta and American Airline pilots. Mike’s investment philosophy for retired clients is “Principal Preservation” with a strong emphasis on value investing. His primary goal is to create an investment strategy that enables his clients to always sleep soundly at night.
Mike’s professional career began in the United States Marine Corp where he served a tour in Desert Storm as a member of the F18 Fighter Squadron. While in the USMC, Mike earned his Bachelors of Science degree in Aeronautical Engineering with a minor in Business Administration. After completing his degree, Mike began his professional career with Mead Corporation where he was sponsored to attend Harvard University’s corporate management program. This is where Mike has learned many of the fundamental values he employs in his portfolio management style today.
Jim joined Southport Capital in 2008 and serves as the Senior Portfolio Manager at Southport Capital. His primary focus is helping small to medium sized business more effectively manage their retirement benefit accounts.
Born and raised in Chattanooga, Tennessee, Jim came to Atlanta to attend the Georgia Institute of Technology, where he played varsity football for four years and graduated in 1977 with a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Management.
The first four years of his business career was spent in the insurance industry with Moye Financial Associates. He started his Wall Street career at Merrill Lynch in 1981. Jim has had an extensive career of money management at Bear Stearns, Shearson Lehman Brothers, and Robinson-Humphrey Co., with his last nineteen years being spent at Oppenheimer & Co. Inc. in Atlanta, Georgia, before joining Southport in 2008.
Jim and his wife Terri are now empty nesters in Marietta, Georgia, having successfully raised an attorney and two USMC officers.
lris has over 30 years of experience in the ﬁnancial services industry. lris began her career with Dean Witter Reynolds in Tampa, Florida and then with Paine Webber in Mission Viejo, California where she worked with a top Municipal Bond trader. Most recently, she was a Senior Financial Associate at Oppenheimer & Co. in Atlanta, Georgia for 23 years. She has extensive Client Service relationship experience and the necessary skills for Compliance.
Iris is married to John Israel, and they have 2 grown sons with families in Utah and San Diego. lris studied Marine Science at Temple University and was planning for a career in that industry, but life took her in another direction. She is currently active in Equine and Canine Rescue with Save the Horses and Golden Rescue of Atlanta, she also enjoys cooking, dancing and the beach.
Emily has worked for Southport Capital since 2001 in operational support. Whenever she is asked what she does, Emily will reply “whatever the needs of the day are.. from moving offices to payroll to ordering coffee”.
Prior to joining Southport Capital, Emily worked for Livingston Company, a financial services firm. Emily’s varied background from being a medical secretary to managing apartments, owner of an auto parts business, legal secretary, manager of a fabric brokerage business, loan processor, to numerous secretarial and assistant positions in varied industries, makes her a good match for the tasks of an expansive company.
Emily is actively involved in church and community volunteer work. Emily and her husband Rolland have lived in Chattanooga for the past twenty five years and have a blended family of 6 children, 17 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
Jennifer works in operational support, overseeing investment-related transactions, client fund flows, new account openings and firm-wide reporting. She has been with Southport Capital since 2004 with over 16 years experience in the financial services industry. Prior to Southport Capital, she has worked for a major commercial bank in both the personal trust group and the endowment & foundations group. Her role on the Southport Capital team is based on a track record of client focus as well as timely completion of back-office functions.
Jennifer has spent her entire career in markets served by Southport Capital, in the Chattanooga area and north Georgia. She and her husband Derrick enjoy spending free time with family and friends, including investing time and effort in their church.
Wendy joined the Southport Capital team in 2016 as additional operational support. She graduated Young Harris College in 2005 with an Associate’s Degree in Art. Prior to joining Southport, she had three years financial experience in public banking and several years in administration.
During her down time, Wendy enjoys reading, fishing, hunting, watching baseball and sharing time with the ones she loves, especially her son, Jace.
Britt has served as Portfolio Manager with Southport Capital since 2013. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Prior to joining Southport Capital, Britt was a Financial Advisor with Bank of America Investments and Edward Jones. Britt has 16 years of investment experience.
Britt and his wife Kristie have three children and a grandson. Outside of work Britt has coached various girls basketball teams but now enjoys attending his daughter’s high school basketball games.
Michael Lange has been a financial advisor for 34 years. He is dedicated to providing value-based, comprehensive financial advice and using asset management programs that help ensure that his clients reach their retirement with less worry and stress. Michael is a leader in pre- and post-retirement planning and specializes in protecting 401(k) and IRA assets from stock market losses, securing lifetime income that you cannot outlive, developing and managing tax-free income programs, and using living trusts and other estate planning techniques to avoid probate.
Michael’s warm personality, gift for helping others, and ability to explain difficult concepts in layman’s terms have helped him build strong, long-lasting relationships with his clients. Paul has eight years of experience in the financial services industry, with humble beginnings as an intern during his college years. He graduated from Florida Southern College with a degree in Business Administration. As a Certified Income Specialist, Paul is meticulous in plan design for his clients and helps them adjust to any life changes that affect their financial goals. He prides himself in making sure all the details of client plans are carried out and implemented. Paul believes that financial freedom is available to those who learn about it and work for it.
As a resident of southwest Florida, Paul is a member of the Young Leaders Alliance, forming personal and professional relationships while building leadership skills. He is active in serving his local community by volunteering at such organizations as All Faiths Food Bank and Habitat for Humanity. Paul spends his free time with nature. He enjoys doing everything from taking his dog Champ to the beach to hiking mountains at a national park.
Lynne joined Southport Capital in May of 2014. Lynne brings 15 years of experience in the Financial Services industry to the team. She was born and raised in State College, Pennsylvania and attended Penn State University. She began her career with PNC Financial working for PNC Bank, then achieving her life insurance and brokerage licenses prior to transitioning to PNC Financial. Lynne also worked with TransAmerica, where she traveled throughout the Northeast training Financial Advisers and Insurance Agents on mutual funds and annuities.
Lynne enjoys spending time with her family, friends, and her Maltese Lucy. She also enjoys cooking, reading, and football; especially the Nittany Lions of Penn State!
Julie is a Financial Planner and handles portfolio administration in the Atlanta
branch of Southport Capital. She joined the firm in 2016, coming from
Oppenheimer & Co where she was a Senior Client Services Associate for 5 years.
She began her financial career in 1979 at Lehman Brothers Kuhn Loeb as a
Registered Sales Assistant. Prior to joining Oppenheimer, she employed her
knowledge and skill as a certified Consultant Group Analyst at Morgan Stanley
Smith Barney, working with high net worth clients.
A native Californian, Julie attended Grossmont College and San Diego State where
she obtained her Associate’s degree in Radio and Television Production. After
relocating to the Atlanta area, she continued her education at Kennesaw State
University where she studied Secondary Math and Science Education.
She holds her General Securities Representative License (Series 7), the Uniform
Securities Agent State Exam (Series 63), Uniform Securities Agent State Law
Exam (Series 66), Insurance/Annuity License and Variable Annuity Licenses. She
is currently enrolled in a study program working toward a CFP designation.
She’s been married 22 years and has 2 adult sons. She unwinds in the evenings and
weekends by either riding motorcycles with her husband and friends or by
creating whimsical, yet functional pottery that can be found in galleries in Georgia
and Kentucky. She also is active in her church and church choir.
Georgette joined Southport Capital in May 2014 as the Director of Client Relations. Georgette consults with high net worth clients in various individual matters with both diligence and meticulous attention to detail at our Lakewood Ranch, FL office. She handles all client administration, the maintenance of existing accounts, and any client related inquiries, boasting over 30 years of financial service experience. She transitioned to Southport Capital from her similar role with Integrated Asset Management dating back to 2006.
Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, Georgette attended the College of Staten Island. She began her career with Merrill Lynch in New York City teaming with brokerage traders in the Institutional Sales division, acquiring twelve years of valuable industry experience. Georgette moved on to Creative Investment Concepts in New Jersey where she managed four businesses simultaneously. At Creative Investments, she also worked hand in hand with investment brokers Oppenheimer and Franklin Templeton as the Client Services Manager.
After a lifetime of big city living, Georgette moved to Bradenton, Florida for the warm weather and its world famous beach destinations. She has a passion for bicycling and also enjoys evening walks.
Penny joined Southport Capital in 2012 and brings over two decades of financial service experience to the team. Penny attended UNC-Greensboro and Surry Community College, earning a degree in Accounting. Prior to joining Southport, she worked with an Independent Representative of H.D. Vest Investment Services. Penny started her career performing administrative duties and within a couple of years she became a licensed Investment Representative.
Before her start in financial services, Penny prepared taxes for H&R Block and also worked as a bookkeeper for small businesses in the Mount Airy area. She currently resides in Mount Airy, North Carolina with her husband Ray. They have two children and two grandchildren. Outside of work, Penny enjoys spending time with her family, reading, and riding motorcycles.
Mary Brim joined Southport Capital in March of 2013. Mary received her accounting degree in 1982 from Kings College in Charlotte, North Carolina. She brings to Southport Capital over three decades of accounting experience. She has 10 years of experience in financial services, taking care of all administrative client needs.
Prior to joining the Southport Capital team, Mary worked in the Automotive Parts and service industry for 27 years. Mary also worked as an administrative assistant for HD Vest for 7 years and as a tax preparer with H & R Block for 7 years. She has been married to her husband Shane for 15 years and has two children. She enjoys playing golf, traveling and spending time with her family.
Lucinda joined Southport’s team in 2013. She has experience in the industry as an administrative assistant for registered reps with HD Vest Investment Services, Cambridge Investment Research and Oppenheimer, dating back to 1999. She takes great pride in both client services and client relationships. Prior to her investment career, Lucinda was the office administrator for a group of psychiatrists in Owensboro, KY. She also has accounting and communications experience in the transportation industry.
Lucinda has been married to her husband, Bryan over 20 years and together they have one daughter, Lydia. Outside of work, she loves playing piano, being outdoors, and spending time with friends and family. She is also very active in her church and community.
Susan merged her fee-only practice with Southport Capital in September 2017. Ms. Naive has been in the investment industry nearly 30 years. Before starting Swift Creek Capital in 2010, she was a partner/owner in investment advisory firms in the Flathead Valley area of Montana for seventeen years and in California prior to that.
As an investment advisor for 25 years, Susan has developed a common-sense approach to wealth management. She will help you focus on what is important to you with the aim to create a portfolio mix that matches your financial objectives while maintaining a level of risk with which you are comfortable. Susan’s personal philosophy is that each person deserves her upmost respect and service. Her passion for her clients drives her to do her best to offer completely independent and unbiased advice.
Susan has been involved with the Bigfork Chamber of Commerce, the Bigfork Museum of Art and History, Leadership Flathead and served on the Board of Directors of the Glacier Symphony and Chorale. She currently serves the Whitefish Credit Union as a member Supervisory Committee and is on the board of The Bigfork Center for the Performing Arts. Her commitment to service of others is a primary joy in her life.
Susan has resided in the Flathead Valley for over 25 years with her husband, Greg. They have two grown children and her newly found empty nest lifestyle affords her time to explore her favorite hobbies: touring Northwest Montana especially Glacier National Park, genealogy, scrapbooking and hand crafts. She has a keen awareness about children with autism and is active with families in the Flathead Valley.
Carol merged her fee-only advisory practice with Southport Capital in May 2017. She has 18 years of hands-on experience as a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ and Investment Advisor serving individuals and small businesses. Carol grew up in Lansing, Michigan and received her BS degree from Central Michigan University majoring in Computer Science and Music. Carol moved to Los Angeles in 1975 and earned her Master’s degree in Computer Science from West Coast University.
Prior to entering the Financial Services industry in 2000, Carol worked in a variety of computer industry jobs. She led complex technical projects and also helped people learn to use new personal computer technologies. Carol views all technology as tools that enable people to live better lives.
Carol met her partner, Marilyn, in 1985. They married in California in 2008. They have two dogs that roam the large 280 acre park near their home on a daily basis. When Carol is not in the office or meeting with clients, you can find her on a golf course looking for pars and birdies.

Darold has more than 35 years of experience as a financial advisor and portfolio manager to families, institutions, and corporate investors throughout the Southeast.
Darold holds Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, a Master of Business Administration degree and a Master of Science in Management with a concentration in International Management.
Lisa joined the Southport team in 2013. Lisa graduated from Murray State University with a bachelor’s degree in accounting. She is a Certified Public Accountant and has been in practice for 30 years in Greenville, Kentucky.
Lisa works with individuals, businesses, trusts and estates in preparing tax returns, financial reports, payroll, payroll reports, and estate plans. She helps our clients to save money on their taxes and plan for retirement. Outside of work, Lisa enjoys spending time with her five grandchildren and gardening.
