Bill Gunderson

Portfolio Manager- CIO of Gunderson Capital

Bill is the President of Gunderson Capital Management, headquartered in Mount Pleasant, SC. Gunderson Capital Management, manages over $100 million in portfolio assets for clients across the country.

“Before I buy a stock, I want to see three things,” Gunderson says. “Value, performance, and a healthy stock chart. We follow 5326+ stocks. And we only invest in a very small portion of them. That means we have a lot to choose from and we have a very high bar.”

Bill Gunderson is a frequent guest on national TV and talk radio shows, including Fox News, Fox Business, Bloomberg and others. He has received journalism awards from The San Diego Press Club and The Society of Professional Journalism. Including three for Best Columnist of the Year. He also hosts a nationally syndicated radio program every market morning, called the Best Stocks Now! radio hour.

As the Chief Operating Officer, Nadia brings over 28 years of industry experience to Southport Capital.

Nadia overseesthe Charleston South Carolina branch’sdaily operations, communications, lead generation, and client experience. She leads our team of knowledgeable, dedicated financial industry professionals whose overall mission is to provide exceptional service, support, and education.

Originally from West Bloomfield, Michigan, Nadia attended Wayne State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology.  She began her financial services career in 1998 with Centaurus Financial, training independent financial advisors on establishing more efficient back-office systems and creating an office culture focused on the changing needs of their clients. She spent ten years as the Senior Director of Business Development and Training and the National Director of Acquisitions and Recruiting at Householder Group Estate and Retirement Specialist.

Nadia lives in Gilbert, Arizona, with her life partner Scot and their French Bulldog George W. She is an active member of the American Society of Training and Development,supporting her passion for workplace learning and performance. She participates in community service by assisting various non-profits such as the Make a Wish Foundation, St. Marys Food Bank, and St. Jude’s. In her spare time,she enjoys the great outdoors, autobiographies, plays mediocre tennis, and considers herself an “armchair detective.”

As a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charterholder and Certified Financial Planner™ practitioner, CFP®, Barry provides our clients with trusted advice based on sound financial principles and analysis. With 20+ years of experience, Barry has managed $100M+ in client assets and has advised on $75M+ in acquisitions/divestitures of client owned businesses.

Barry takes a comprehensive approach to portfolio construction and financial planning, by integrating each aspect of a client’s financial picture into his overall analysis. Barry develops an extensive financial road-map by reviewing his client’s investment assets, outstanding liabilities, future cash flow requirements, employee benefits, insurance needs, education goals, and future windfalls. He is willing to work closely with his client’s other professional advisors in order to coordinate portfolio selection, income tax, and estate planning needs. Barry believes this “holistic” approach paints a realistic financial picture for clients and gives them the confidence that comes with preparing for the inherent risks of the future.

Barry attended Florida State University where he graduated with a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) and a Bachelor’s in Finance. He is a member of the CFA Institute and serves as a member of the board/investment committee for United Methodist Church Foundation Investment Management. As a member and mentor at the Entrepreneur Center of Nashville, Barry helped develop funding strategies for businesses in the early stages of development.

Edye Kates

Business Development

Edye brings over two decades of experience as a client relations and service industry provider. She is typically the first point of contact and an internal resource for those interested in working with the Gunderson team at Southport Capital. She schedules client appointments, workshop registrations and supports those who would like to know more about our products and services.

Edye earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Northern Arizona University and spent the early part of her career in the marketing and advertising sector.

In 2000 Edye and her husband started an outdoor mobile advertising business where she demonstrated her expertise in business development, marketing project management, accounting, and vendor relations. Although no longer involved in the day-to-day activities, she gained a profound insight into the value of the customer relationship and experience.

Edye and her husband Jeff reside in Scottsdale, Arizona. She enjoys yoga and spending time with her three adult children, Dalton, Alyssa, and Jeremy.

Sandy McManus

Client Service Administrator

As the Client Service Manager of the Charleston Office, Sandy initiates her role with our clients by assisting them with the overall process of account openings. She also guides them thru the final steps of their onboarding experience. She oversees the maintenance of existing accounts and all client-related items and requests. Sandy’s warm and inviting personality adds value to the firm in building rapport and sustaining trusting long-term relationships with our clients.

Sandy has over 20 years of experience, including six years at Merrill Lynch and three at RG Capital. She also spent some time at Ziegler, Stifel, and Mass. She holds a Series 63 License. Sandy also serves as our office liaison between our team members and the broker-dealer support teams.

She enjoys being a mom, and at church, Sandy has volunteered as a Sunday School teacher for 14 years. She likes fixing and creating things; working with her hands helps her relax. She especially loves art, hockey, and hiking.
